Will You Have Enough Food Storage During A Crisis?
During a time of crisis, food is the first thing to go from stores. People stock-pile and hoard it so they have enough.
But whats going to happen when their 72-hour kits run out? How about their 3-month supply of food? People even stock up a year’s worth of food storage, but what is going to happen when that runs out?
Week 1 of a food shortage
Lets say YOU have a 3-month supply, but your next-door neighbor has a 2-week supply… and the stores have nothing due to looters and hoarders. Guess who your neighbor is going to approach – YOU.
He’ll first ask for something for free, and you being a generous, good neighbor will give it just hoping to help out. A few days later, he’ll ask for more and this is when you’ll become a little hesitant. He notices that you’re second-thinking whether or not to give him food, so he offers you money.
You’ve got a hard decision to make. Do you accept his money in exchange for your food? Remember, you’ve got a family and they need the food to survive. Who comes first – your neighbor or your own family?
So you think, “OK, I’ll take his money in exchange for my food, and I’ll just buy more food from someone else who has lots to spare.” You make the trade and start looking around for another person who has more food so you can buy.
Well, lets say you do find that person, but guess what he has done. He’s charging way more for food than the stores have ever charged, and there are many other people wanting to buy food from him. You learn that the money your neighbor gave you isn’t enough to replace the food you gave away!!
Now that food is extremely expensive, you realize another cold, hard fact: Your own cash that you’ve saved up for years no longer has the purchasing power it used to. When you used to be able to buy 5 bags of groceries for $100, it now costs you $1,000 simply because there is a critical food shortage and many other people want that food. You’re now competing with everyone in your neighborhood for food.
Week 5 of a food shortage
Lets say 1 month has gone by, and your neighbor is now getting desperate. He hasn’t eaten for a few days and his money isn’t worth enough to buy food from those who have plenty. What will he do?
He’s going to come to you and try to barter. Since he has no more money because he spent it trying to buy what little food he could, he now wants to trade his possessions for your food. He’s got a nice 42″ Plasma TV that he’s begging to trade with you for some of your food.
Do you trade? Remember, you’ve got a family to keep feeding, and you need to consider if the food shortage crisis is getting any better. Do you see a light at the end of the tunnel? Most importantly, IS YOUR FAMILY GOING TO BE HUNGRY if you barter away your food?? You decide to not barter.
Your next-door neighbor might become your worst enemy!
Lets say your neighbor has seen your food storage… he knows exactly where it is. When you least expect it, he performs a “hit and run” and steals a week’s worth of your food. Now he’s gone into hiding just to protect the little food he’s got.
You get angry and vow that no one, especially not your neighbor, is ever going to steal your food again. So you move your food storage somewhere safe, somewhere close to at all times. You keep it locked up so no one can steal it.
You’re now getting approached by other people in the neighborhood, who express their hunger and need for food. One man even starts getting upset and pushes you down because you have food and wont barter with him.
Week 9 of a food shortage
I’m going to assume that you’ve never been absolutely desperate for food. Desperate enough to steal from your next-door neighbor. Desperate enough to give up a 42″ Plasma TV for a week’s worth of meager meals.
Now that more than 2 months of your food storage is gone, and no sight of the food shortage ending, what’s going on in your head? I bet you’re starting to get nervous. You can’t stop thinking of how to feed your family once your storage is gone.
Cash is no longer accepted by others who still have plenty of food. They’ve changed what they accept because the value of paper money has gone WAY down, meaning that paper money just can’t buy goods like it used to. So now they ONLY accept gold and silver, as are many other people and businesses around the nation.
You lucked out… turns out you’ve got a hundred 1 ounce silver bars stored in an old shoebox in the bottom of your closet. You can buy a week’s worth of food for your whole family in exchange for 5 ounces of silver, so 5 bars.
Week 10 of food shortage
Well, looks like you can buy food for your family with silver for a while, until you run out of silver. But don’t think of that now. Think of the person that got killed around the block because someone tried to steal their precious food.
Who got killed? The one stealing. Why? Because the owner of the food had to protect it so his family could survive. Are you going to protect your precious food to the point of “kill or die”? Hopefully it doesn’t get that bad, but are you prepared to protect your food and your family?
What you should really do in case of a national food shortage
While food storage is important, you need to have vegetable seeds on hand. When a crisis bursts on the nation and food gets scarce, you have got to plant your own food and harvest it.
It will save you money. It will save you gold and silver. It will save your life.
If you have at least a 3 month supply of food, plant your seeds as soon as you can so you can harvest them sooner and not run out of your food storage.
Food Storage Prep: Final Thoughts
Your neighbors who aren’t prepared are going to know that you’re planting vegetables and will definitely end up trying to steal the food or even the plants, so protect your garden.
When your plants are producing vegetables, be sure to collect as many seeds as possible and store them up again. Do not let seeds get thrown away or wasted. They are your life-line to survival in the future.
In fact, not only will food be extremely costly, but seeds will be, too. Seeds are cheap now, so store up.
